A Session with Jensen at Pioneer Skate Park

Eric Jensen had been staying in Nanaimo, and working at Switchback Longboards for the past while. I snagged a couple rad photos while we were chilling at Nanaimo’s Pioneer Skatepark for his last day in town.

Word on the street is Jensen recently tried to escape to California for the winter and got denied at the border. Poor dude. Looks like he’ll have to deal with the rain for the rest of the year!

Ukee Days Downhill 2014

The third annual Ukee days downhill event was hotter than you could imagine, but as always a great time.  Three years ago I attended the first event, the shitvan was in all of its astrovan glory and loaded with children. The event was organized by a youth group, they had  not anticipated anyone from too far out of town to show up. Between the switchback team, Les and the Rayne hazard whip and our crew from Victoria, they were pretty blow away. Fast forward a few years later and the downhill event seems completely dominated by out of towners, hell there was even a kid from Kelowna there. I found myself being handed a megaphone told I was announcing the rest of the day, while I’d never attempted this level of heckling, I found myself unable to resist. A standard pack race, a head to head slalom race and a slide comp were in order, Aiden  won the mass start event, Lucas won the slalom, (which was a very odd event and I’m not sure what mattered more, luck or skill) and the hulking beast that is Lane jackart (I know I just mangled your name) destroyed the slide jam, and very nearly everyone else. Check out Dion’s pics.

Island Luke narrowly avoids disaster as Shaun Douglas comes barreling in behind him in the semi finals.

There is no greater moment of terror than realizing you’ve just wiped out in front of Shaun Douglas.

Britannia Classic 2014 edit is live!

The Britannia Classic was a pretty hectic race this year! Wet runs in the AM, patchy for the majority of the runs throughout the afternoon, and if you had enough stamina to skate all day then you’d probably get some dry runs in there at some point, too!

Britannia is the perfect example of good ‘ole fashioned BC racing. Great runs with the usual crews! It was awesome to see lots of youngins from Vic up for the race this year, too. Hopefully next year we get some footage of more Islander runs.

Riders getting shuttled back to the top. Strike usually lets people skitch on the Uhaul cause he doesn't give a fuck and thinks it's funny when people crash. Which is cool.

You'll find many types of people at Danger Bay, watching the race. Medics, burnouts, "serious racers", locals, partiers, but mostly dudes just wanting to have a good time.
